The Situation: Our group was given the task of creating a new marvel character completely from scratch. Like any good comic book character, ours needed a backstory, a power (or multiple), and a nemesis. But, the character also needed to be relevant and appealing to a growing Marvel audience.
The Landscape: Our world today is technology driven. Every time you put your information into your computer, you may be giving away your location and other valuable information. With most of the population using social media, they are easy to track as well. Our character's story is centered around our world's interaction with its growing reliance on technology and intercommunication.
The Solution: We created Ava VanAllan. A young woman who begins the story as an employee at her father's company. Allan VanAllan is one of the wealthiest men in the world. He owns AVCommunications, the second largest news and broadcasting corporations on the globe. Ava has grown up quite privileged - traveling by private jet, buying whatever her heart could desire, and enjoying what any American heiress would. But then one evening, her lifelong friend since childhood tells her that her father has been part of an evil and malicious plot... and has been for years. The next day, her friend disappears, and Ava decides to change her life.... and "Iris" is born.

Copywriter - Scott Minniear
Art Direction - Anne Marie Wonder

My Role: Our entire team came together to create the story that became Iris. For us, creating her backstory and how she would interact with other Marvel characters was our favorite. The incredibly talented Anne Marie Wonder brought her to life through animation... and Iris truly was born.
